Honor the life and martyrdom of Saint Raphael the Hieromartyr with this beautifully handcrafted Greek Orthodox icon. Each piece is made using traditional iconography techniques, offering a meaningful connection to Orthodox faith and history.
Saint Raphael, born George Laskaris in 1410 in Ithaca, served as a military officer before choosing a life of spiritual devotion at the age of 35. He became a monk, later ordained archimandrite and protosyggelos, and lived a life of asceticism in Macedonia. After the fall of Constantinople, he fled to Mytilene, where he led the monastery of the Nativity of the Theotokos near Thermi.
In 1463 AD, during the Ottoman invasion of Lesvos, Saint Raphael was captured and martyred after horrific torture. The Orthodox Church commemorates his holy memory two days after Easter Sunday, and he is known today as a protector and healer.
