Description
The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ on December 25, honoring the miraculous birth of the Savior by the Blessed Virgin Mary. According to the Gospel, Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethlehem to be counted during the census ordered by Caesar Augustus. Upon their arrival, they found no place to stay except a humble cave, where the Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ and placed Him in a manger.
This sacred moment marks the beginning of God’s incarnation on earth, and since ancient times Christians have joyfully proclaimed the angelic hymn:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace.”
The celebration of Christmas as we know it today was first formally established in 397 AD by Saint John Chrysostom, who emphasized the divine significance of Christ’s birth for all humanity.
This icon beautifully captures the holiness, humility, and deep spiritual meaning of the Nativity of Jesus Christ, making it a perfect piece for Christmas, spiritual home décor, prayer corners, and Orthodox Christian devotion.
