Description
A handmade religious icon depicting Saint Christopher Papoulakos, crafted on a 14×20 cm wooden panel.
This piece is handmade using the decoupage technique and carefully finished by hand. It is not a hand-painted Byzantine icon. The religious image is applied to the wooden surface using decoupage, creating a distinctive devotional and decorative piece.
Saint Christopher, widely known as “Papoulakos,” was born in 1770 in the village of Arbounas, near Kalavryta, Greece. He initially worked as a butcher before choosing the monastic life. He lived as a monk at the Monastery of Mega Spilaio and later spent approximately twenty years in ascetic seclusion near his native village.
At around the age of 80, he began preaching about prayer, faith and moral life. His criticism of the Bavarian administration in Greece eventually led to his arrest and imprisonment. In 1854, he was exiled to the Monastery of Panachrantos on the island of Andros, where he passed away on 18 January 1861.
On 29 August 2024, the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate officially numbered him among the Saints of the Orthodox Church.
A meaningful religious piece for a home prayer corner, an icon display or as a thoughtful Orthodox Christian gift.
