Saint Tikhon of Mount Athos was a Russian monk and hermit who lived in Kapsala on Mount Athos. He devoted his life entirely to prayer, fasting, and asceticism, becoming widely known for his humility, simplicity, and unwavering trust in God’s providence.
Saint Tikhon became the spiritual father of Saint Paisios, guiding him during his first years of monastic life and teaching him the practice of inner prayer and silence. Their profound spiritual relationship greatly shaped the future ministry of Saint Paisios.
Saint Paisios, born Arsenios Eznepidis in Cappadocia in 1924, settled in Greece with his family after the population exchange. Before becoming a monk, he worked as a carpenter and later entered Mount Athos, dedicating his life to prayer, sacrifice, and spiritual counsel.
In 1979, he settled at the hermitage of Panagouda, where thousands of pilgrims visited him seeking guidance and comfort. He reposed in 1994 and was officially canonized by the Orthodox Church in 2015. His feast day is celebrated on July 12, while Saint Tikhon’s feast day is celebrated on September 23.
