This beautiful handmade wooden icon of Saint Ephraim the Great Martyr is carefully crafted on natural wood using premium materials and inspired by the rich tradition of Orthodox iconography.
Saint Ephraim, born Konstantinos Morfis in 1384 AD in Trikala, Greece, entered the Monastery of the Annunciation on the Mount of the Immaculate in Attica at the age of fourteen to escape Ottoman conscription. He devoted 28 years to prayer, fasting, and monastic life.
In 1424 AD, Ottoman forces attacked the monastery and killed nearly all the monks. A year later Saint Ephraim was captured and endured eight months of severe torture before suffering martyrdom when he was hanged upside down from a mulberry tree at the age of 42.
Today, his holy relics are preserved at the Monastery of the Annunciation in Nea Makri, Greece, attracting thousands of Orthodox pilgrims every year. His feast day is celebrated on May 5th.
