Description
A handmade religious icon depicting Saint Seraphim of Sarov, crafted on a 14×20 cm wooden panel.
This piece is handmade using the decoupage technique and carefully finished by hand. It is not a hand-painted Byzantine icon. The religious image is applied to the wooden surface using decoupage, creating a distinctive devotional and decorative piece.
Saint Seraphim of Sarov was born in 1759 in the city of Kursk, Russia, and was originally named Prokhor. At the age of 19, he entered the Monastery of Sarov, wishing to dedicate his entire life to God. During his stay at the monastery, he became seriously ill but was miraculously healed. He was later ordained a deacon and, at the age of 34, a priest.
Following his ordination, Saint Seraphim withdrew into the wilderness for 16 years. There, he devoted himself to the study of the Holy Scriptures, ascetic practice and unceasing prayer. During this period, he was attacked and seriously injured by robbers, but once again recovered in a miraculous manner.
In 1810, he returned to the Monastery of Sarov. At the age of 66, following an instruction from the Virgin Mary, he opened his cell to visitors and dedicated himself to serving and spiritually guiding others. Through his love, serenity and teachings, he offered comfort, hope and joy to everyone who sought his counsel.
Saint Seraphim peacefully reposed on 2 January 1833 while praying before an icon of the Virgin Mary. He was officially canonised in 1903, and his Holy Relics are kept at the Diveyevo Monastery in Russia. The Orthodox Christian Church celebrates his feast day on 2 January.
A meaningful religious piece for a home prayer corner or icon display, as well as a thoughtful Orthodox Christian gift for a loved one.
