Description
This handmade wooden icon depicts the Dormition of the Theotokos, one of the most important and deeply symbolic scenes in the Orthodox Christian tradition.
The Mother of God is depicted at the centre of the composition surrounded by the Apostles and angelic figures. Christ appears holding the soul of His Mother, following the traditional Byzantine iconographic representation of the Dormition.
The icon is created on a 14×20 cm wooden base using the decoupage technique and individually finished by hand. Gold details throughout the composition highlight the halos and enhance the traditional Byzantine character of the artwork.
The Dormition of the Theotokos is celebrated on August 15, one of the major feasts dedicated to the Mother of God in the Orthodox Church.
As each icon is individually finished by hand rather than produced through a fully automated mass-production process, slight variations may occur, contributing to the individual character of every piece.
A meaningful choice for an Orthodox prayer corner, Christian home or religious gift, particularly for the Feast of the Dormition.
