Περιγραφή
Bring a piece of the Holy Mountain into your home with this handmade icon of the Virgin Mary “Axion Estin”, crafted with reverence and devotion by skilled artisans. Carved on aged wood and adorned with genuine gold leaf, this icon is inspired by the miraculous event that took place in 982 A.D. at the cell of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Mount Athos, where the Archangel Gabriel appeared in monastic form and delivered the now-famous hymn “Axion Estin”.
This icon portrays the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child, as she is venerated in the Protaton Church, the spiritual heart of Mount Athos. The original icon, covered in a precious silver-gilt riza, is considered the protective icon of the entire Holy Mountain and plays a central role in the Great Monday of Bright Week procession.
This piece makes a meaningful gift for Orthodox Christians, a precious baptism or wedding present, or a spiritual centerpiece for your prayer corner.
